Hi, I’m Megan—one of the designers here at Light My Bricks—and I had the absolute pleasure of lighting up the LEGO® Hogwarts™ Express Book Nook. As a longtime Harry Potter fan, this charming little set was such a joy to work on. Adding lights really brings the scene to life, adding a soft, welcoming glow that turns it into a standout display piece. Whether you're a wizarding world enthusiast or simply love a cozy, atmospheric build, this set is now a magical eye-catcher that's perfect for any bookshelf.
Lighting Inspiration
For this build, we wanted to capture the warmth and wonder of stepping onto Platform 9¾. I lit the platform using four Astro Large Warm White lights positioned above, casting a soft, sunlit glow over the scene—just like a warm day at King’s Cross Station.
The front of the Hogwarts Express features a glowing headlight, created with an Astro Regular Yellow light nestled under an Astro Cap for a focused beam effect. Inside the train, I added another Astro Regular Yellow light to illuminate the cabin, making it feel warm and inviting.
In the carriage section, additional Astro Regular Yellow lights continue the cozy, golden tone, bringing out the friendly, nostalgic ambiance that fans of the series know so well. These lighting choices were all about enhancing the storytelling, making the set feel like a living, breathing moment from the wizarding world.
Feature Highlights:
- Warm White Spotlights
To recreate the feel of a sunny day on Platform 9¾™, I installed warm white spotlights along the ceiling. These are built using elements from the Warm White Spotlight Pack: a Regular Warm White Astro Light, a 1x1 round plate with open stud, a modified 1x1 tile with open O-clip, and a modified 1x1 round plate with bar handle. The compact design and soft warm glow effectively mimic natural overhead lighting. The result is a bright, welcoming platform scene that adds warmth and depth to the display.
Assembly Walkthrough

Start with the Astro Large Light – Warm White 30cm.
Gently remove the label tag and thread the plug end through the open stud of the 1x1 round plate. -
Orient the light.
Adjust the LED so it faces upward once inserted into the plate.

Add structure.
Attach the 1x1 modified plate with a bar handle to the base, followed by the skeleton arm, and then the other 1x1 modified plate. This creates a neat pivot point to angle the spotlight as needed. -
Repeat.
Follow this process again so you have two spotlights, and position them on either side of the top of the set to add that dramatic lighting to the characters.
Seamless Display Configuration
A unique aspect of this set is its dual-display option—either open for full scenic visibility or closed for compact, bookend-style elegance. To support this flexibility, I included a specially routed Belt 50cm that connects the two halves of the model. The belt’s length is just right to accommodate both configurations without the need to unplug or adjust any components.
In addition to enabling smooth transitions between open and closed setups, the belt 50cm also provides enough space to place books between the two sections. This allows the lit-up Hogwarts Express to frame your bookshelf and your reading collection beautifully. The result is a seamless, versatile display that feels both magical and functional.
