Complex build but with stunning results.
This was rather complicated compared to the other light kits I've done so far. However it is worth the effort - the extra effects really work well - especially the animated flux capacitor lighting.
There are a LOT of wires to run for the headlights, taillights and blue power conduits. It will require patience to route everything underneath and twist neatly. I used spare bricks to secure the expansion boards and wiring bundles to the bottom of the floor pan. I powered it all with the AA battery pack and some rechargeables. As an unexpected bonus, the AA battery pack hides neatly behind the BTTF placard that LEGO provides.
I integrated the lighting as the kit went together. I don't think this really saves any time or trouble though, as you are forced to do things out of sequence. For once I would have really welcomed printed instructions versus trying to zip around the PDF; zooming in and out to figure out the details.
Finally, I skipped the wheel lighting. I did not like how the LED hubcaps looked when the wheels are down, and that they immobilize the wheels, and felt like there was already enough fragile stuff going on underneath. I played with adding the LEDs behind the wheels, and then behind the hubcaps, but the effect is dramatically reduced. So, I don't know, I may add them later, or find a use for them in something else... so I only knock off one star because I think LMB should offer a cheaper version without the LED hubcaps. Having said that, there…
